Carlson to interview Rittenhouse

Jon answered that question very well the other day. To try on the role of hero in extraordinary events and a historical time. I paraphrased a bit there, and it was the same as the protesters, themselves. Rightly or wrongly, they cast themselves as the hero in their own little play (except for Rosenbaum, I think Rosenbaum was trying to complete his suicide attempt).
Would I want Lucas within 100 miles of that place? Absolutely not. But if he was there, and was choosing to hand out medical supplies, put out fires, and try to protect property then I would also be proud as hell.
I do believe carrying the gun did exacerbate the situation. That it did provoke their reactions to some extent, though it was a perfectly legal for a 17 year old to carry a rifle in that situation, and their reactions are still entirely on themselves.

Yes I've been describing the motivation of leftist protesters that way for years here. Jon just saw an opportunity to deploy the observation against a right-leaning person for a change.
