me nice walnut cabinetry (possibly stained birch).
Well, at least it looks nice from the pics.

That would be perfect for our dining room (currently empty). The woodwork matches the millwork throughout the house (i.e., the stairs and fireplace).

It's not walnut, but a nice piece nonetheless. You might go for it, 89th... I suspect the market for such things is limited these days.

Wonder if it comes apart into three pieces.

You're right. At first I thought it was, but the "softness" of the grain gave it away.

This was the breakfront in my parents home, handmade Italian furniture. Part of a set which included several other pieces.

After the parents died my brother inherited this piece and had it in his house but as he recently sold his house and moved to a smaller place he was forced to give it up. None of us other sibs really had room for it so we tried to sell it to antique furniture dealers. No takers.

In the end we gave it free to some people whose only job was to take it apart and transport it.

To me it was really the sentimental value. Obviously not much of a real cash market for big old fashioned wooden furniture.

Btw I have the small writing table/desk part of the set.

This is the desk. As u can see it tends to be a countertop to put various detritus and junk on. A chronic problem chez bach.

Any open horizontal surface becomes that. Still, a very pretty piece. I'd like to have a nice writing desk but no room for it.

Yes. And that's a constant "thing" in our home.

When we moved to the condo, we got a new dining room table & chairs.

Mrs. George: "Imma keep this nice and tidy."
Me: "Great! Let's see how long that lasts, LOL."

                  Yeah.

The original piece looks nice but I bet it’s a particle board behemoth that will require an engineering degree to figure out how to take it apart and put back together… No way that’s real cherry…

                    @bachophile those are gorgeous.

My guess... it is in two pieces, a base, and a case sitting on the base. The base is veneer on particle board. The case however, is almost entirely made of milled pieces of solid wood, except for the side panels, which are veneered particleboard. Of the solid wood, most is poplar. Only certain slim sticks are actual hardwood.

Edit: just noticed the sides of the top piece are glass, so scratch the thing about the top side panels being particle board.

Indeed. I always had an admiration for inlay work.

Dabbled with it for a while too - nothing that expansive, but it's fun, exacting work.
