I've had two. The Roomba is better. They work much better and last longer if you do the detailed cleaning procedure as specified in the manual.

They do not take the place of your regular vacuum, but can certainly lengthen the intervals of when you need it.

Looking at Consumer Reports, the prices are outrageously different. A high-end one is about $900 (ridiculous for a vacuum, right?) and a middle-of-the-road one is about half the price - with pretty much the same performance, albeit with fewer bells and whistles.

We have the roomba and have had no issues with the robot.

The robot is not charge let me assure you.

<Owner name> is completely healthy and not in trouble.

There is nothing to worry about.

        Please have a good <insert today’s date>.

I also have been using iRobot’s Roomba for many years. It works quite well for routine cleaning. I never bother to buy the latest version that connects to Wi-Fi and talks to a smartphone app. I just stick to the basic and manually push the buttons when I want it to start a cleaning cycle.

It can get stuck with frills and loose carpet threads and paper napkins on the floor and wires/cables on the floor. Typically anything that can trip up your motorized manual vacuum cleaner will also likely trip up the Roomba. Still, overall it does save time and effort compared to manual vacuuming.

w00t had a sale on the iRobot Roomba 960 (refurbed). It was about half-price.

The 960 gets good reviews and is one of the best in carpet cleaning and reliability. It has a 75 minute battery life, and when battery runs low, it goes back to the base station, recharges, and finishes the job.

Only $240, so I pulled the trigger.

Yes. However, I had problems with the WiFi and it wouldn't connect to the phone. After an hour on the phone with tech support (restarting networks, etc), they finally assumed it was a bad WiFi board and sent me a replacement.

It does a really good job. We've had a cleaning service come every other week for years (just clean living areas and the master main bedroom). I've been shocked at the amount of dirt it's pulling out of the carpets. Every time I run it, the bin is full, and I've run it about 8 times now.

I like the fact that it docks itself to recharge when the battery's low. It does get snagged on fringe on carpets, so it demands some attention. Also, it's gotten stuck under the sofa...

We bought a Shark IQ Robot last week. It has a self-emptying feature, which is quite convenient.
