I have someone interested in my grand piano and have been thinking about downsizing for quite a while.

The question is what to replace it with? These days do I want an upright or maybe a digital? Haven't been in the marketplace for quite a while.

Which is more important to you, touch or tone?

What kind of music do you like to play?

Mostly classical and jazz standards type of stuff. Both touch and tone are important.

Personally? I'm a huge fan of the Avant Grand models N3X and N1X https://usa.yamaha.com/products/musical_instruments/pianos/avantgrand/index.html Especially coming from a grand, the action on an upright will be lacking. Now, they aren't inexpensive...The N1X has an MSRP of $11,400...but they will save you the space that you want.

If you're looking to invest less, then I would recommend trying the Yamaha B3 48" Acoustic and the CLP785 Clavinova (Though, it wouldn't hurt to take a look at a CVP805 if you want something fun.

The N1X looks like an option for me in a year or two, too. First... need to get furniture LOL

Thanks..I think my potential buyer, who has two supposedly 'gifted' girls balked at the price. They don't want to spend that much. Good luck.

                  https://usa.yamaha.com/products/musical_instruments/pianos/upright_pianos/b_series/index.html

The B1 and B2 are built as beginner pianos. The B3 is using the same basic design as the famous U1, and most components are coming from the same factory in Kakegawa. Much better instrument than the other B series and a better value than the U1, IMO.

                      Not a bad price, either.

I looked around on Craigslist - most of the grands I saw were scams or landfill pianos. There was one Hallett-Davis that might have been OK depending on the size.

One of them wanted you to put half down to even look at it.

                          N1X looks super cool.

I have an older yamaha digital, I teach my son little simple songs here and there to build his interest.

I think I'd be tempted to buy something like that and justify it by saying it's for him....

I have a Roland 505 that I use, and an Estonia as a "backup"

                            Love the "real"piano"

Sorry for the typos. Out with a friendly NGO and uploading now. 555
