For those of us who, like me, do not know whoTF Gramsci was, this from Wiki: "Gramsci is best known for his theory of cultural hegemony, which describes how the state and ruling capitalist class – the bourgeoisie – use cultural institutions to maintain power in capitalist societies. The bourgeoisie, in Gramsci's view, develops a hegemonic culture using ideology rather than violence, economic force, or coercion. Hegemonic culture propagates its own values and norms so that they become the "common sense" values of all and thus maintain the status quo."

Not to nit pick, but the ideological capture of universities, media outlets, and corporate HR departments by the illiberal left is very much a Gramscian turn.

A company currying favor with press outlets not so much.

@Catseye3 I think Gramsci didn’t actually coin the phrase IT used but the idea was his.

I happened to see his grave last time I was in Rome. I said to my wife ‘oh look, Gramsci is buried here’ and she said “who?”

It's a cool term. I plan to incorporate it. If a wokester says something stupid to me, I will roll my eyes and flip my hair and sigh, "Oh, gurl, you are just so gramscian."

"Long march" has an asian, Maoist flavour to it.

A co-worker of mine wants to keep using the word "revolution!" in office meetings. I've been working for the past couple weeks on getting him to change that to "permanent revolution" without actually saying the phrase myself.

                      Please love yourself.

What is the point of capturing institutions if you don't have a propaganda machine to further the cause?

Why would you exclude companies -- especially Big Tech and massively wealthy social influencers -- from the gramscian analysis?

Yes, I was well aware of the narrative surrounding the term. Hence my reference to Mao.

No i wouldn’t. But the Gramscian march is about committed ideologues taking over the institutions from the inside, not currying favor from other companies through contracts or payments.

Why not? Once they’ve gained control of the institutions and the wealth, why not just buy out any opposition or anyone willing to be a paid agent ?

I don’t see the left concerned about scruples over such things.
