I'm setting up my new desktop computer. Do you use anti-virus software? Do you regularly scan?

No. And on Windows computers, the first thing I do is to turn real-time protection off.

Recently I got myself into a lot of trouble by downloading two softwares that, as it turned out, fought with each other and messed me up royally. In the process of fixing that, I redd in more than one place that if you have Windows 10, you have their Defender software already, and you only need a good malware program in addition. Malwarebytes was recommended.

I already had Webroot (given free from the people I bought this computer from) and it has served me well, so I decided against Malwarebytes. And I have Defender. So far I've been protected.

ETA: This may be a noob duh thing, but be careful with Norton. Apparently Norton used to be a good thing, but has changed into some kind of devil program. Maybe someone else here can add clarity on that.

I just rely on the Windows security/ Microsoft Defender, and I haven't had any problems.

I use Malwarebytes for protecting from malware and Microsoft Defender.

Interesting... over time I have used/scanned less and less and am now almost of the expectations that Windows 10 and browsers are both pretty darn good at keeping malware and viruses out without needing McAfee or Windows Defender or whatever.

                    I use Norton

I had some virus years ago and this was the only thing that could stop it.

I forget the virus or the problem

These anti-vaxxers aren't just hurting themselves, they only encourage the virus hackers and hurt all of us

Not using virus prevention software is thoughtless, selfish behavior

                    Anti-virus software should be mandated

Same here. Just bought a new Yoga and immediately turned off the free McAfee.

As far as I know, none of my Darwin-based systems has anti-virus software.

I have Windows 10 systems that come with Microsoft Defender. I just leave that alone since I do not use those Windows 10 system all that frequently anyway.
