    By "non-traditional" I mean things that I didn't see 20 years ago.

I've taken little interest in this year's olympics, but I happened across it on MSNBC this evening.

They showed the women's 3 meter diving competition - yeah that's traditional - preliminaries.

Then, they showed the women's BMX prelims. At first I thought, "DaFuq. Why should this be an OLYMPIC event?" As I watched, I found myself totally intrigued. These wimmenz have serious skills riding a bike with no brakes, over all kinds of hills.

    I was duly impressed.

The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.

Yeah we enjoy that event too. We normally record nearly all the Olympics coverage including the less popular channels and events. Sometimes you can find some real nuggets of competition to get into, such as the (new) team relay triathlon, or the trampoline finals. Fun stuff!

I liked the 3-on-3 basketball. Common game played in much of the world, using only a half court.

Another set of new events I liked this year, was the mixed relays, both in the pool and on the track.

Adds another level of strategy to the competition...

I saw a video of one where the girl was the anchor. Started with a huge lead and got passed like she was standing still. Not a good look.

That's why you have to have strategy. And it seems like the speed gaps are bigger in the pool than on the track (that may just be my erroneous perception), so you have to take that into account.

The Sports front page story today was about racism

                Shocking

The Olympic Committee has banned the use of a swimming cap preferred by people with huge afros because it might offer some advantage to the wearer

But we know the real reason

As my husband keeps telling me "It's 3X3. They're trying to brand it Friday." 🙄

I've been waiting for the mountain climbing events.
