Well, this looks cozy.
A cardiologist from San Francisco says he won’t be “flying again for a very long time” after every seat on his Saturday flight was full — despite allegedly receiving a previous message from United Airlines assuring him that middle seats would be blocked off to aid with social-distancing precautions amid the coronavirus health crisis.
Dr. Ethan Weiss, a cardiologist and assistant professor at the University of California, San Francisco, tweeted out a photo from what appeared to be his packed flight on Saturday, which was leaving from Newark, N.J., for San Francisco.“I guess @United is relaxing their social distancing policy these days? Every seat full on this 737,” he wrote.
Weiss further claimed that, on April 30, he was sent an email from United assuring customers that the airline would be “automatically blocking middle seats to give you enough space on board,” according to screenshots he shared on Twitter.

In four to six weeks: "United Airlines lied, people died."
This will have many potential passengers, for any airline, decide to travel by other means (not fly) or not travel at all.

Can’t imagine even every other row would be helpful...it all helps a little but at the end of the day you’re in a tube with many strangers.

I would love to see the experts run the numbers and let us know the relative risk between flying on a plane with no middle seats taken, flying on a full flight, and, you know, not flying at all.

If it was Qatar Air, they would have made you fly the plane and charged extra for that privilege.

The airlines should retrofit their passenger jets with a cabin filtration system sophisticated enough to catch virus particles. Everyone knows that after a flight, there is a good chance to come down with a cold (virus) as the air is recycled.
Then, the stewardess should walk down the aisle, and deluge everyone with Lysol before takeoff. -
