@89th said in About that meat shortage:

Costco wasn’t bad today. They didn’t have any frozen chicken but I was able to get some Tyson’s chicken breasts, as well as their rotisserie chicken which is the best deal there for $4.99. The meat falls off the bone and you get a ton!

Anyway, I heard the echoes of TNCR while I was there so I got eggs, tuna, deli turkey, almonds, etc...

My costco run went well too. Busier than I expected - though not packed. Nice that everyone wore masks.

It was nice going back to store after over a month. I went pretty overboard - ran up more than $1000! (I don't need to go back for months)

Most things I wanted were in stock. Canned tomatoes and green beans were notable misses. Meat was still well stocked - though there was a limit on purchases.

Our pig is at the local meat processor. I forgot to ask how big it is. The meat shop owner said, "It's a big one!"

          That’s Costco. $300 of stuff I didn’t even know I needed.

We ordered from Outback for Mother’s Day. Karla likes their NY Strip. They were out of NY Strip. Their only choices were sirloin or ribeye. She ordered the ribeye. It was obvious it came from a different supplier. Half the thickness of their normal steaks...

Dang, @xenon , were you buying for one family or an entire tribe? Many boxes of diapers and baby formulae in addition to grocery? Was there a laptop or a big screen TV involved?

Hah. I was surprised a bit myself. We’re usually in the $200-300 range and go a couple of times a month.

It was mostly grocery - though there was a freestanding shelf in there to help expand my pantry storage. And some lawncare stuff.

Dry goods / grains - rice, flour, quinoa, granola, oatmeal

                  Nuts, dairy, cheese, oils.

                  Canned stuff.

Then the usual - meats, fresh produce. Bought some nice steaks for Mother’s Day today 🙂

It’s not hard, my last two trips have gone over $400 each time.

Of course, our Costcos sell beer...

Wow, my trips to the supermarket are typically in the <$100 range. But then again, we usually go twice a week. I like fresh food.

Mrs. Mark and I have now gone to Aldi twice in the past week. First time going to any store in over 2 months. We assess the parking lot before going in. If it's too busy, we go home. We wear masks and I saturate two dried up disinfectant wipes from a pack that has been the car too long, with a very strong, homemade hand sanitizer solution and wipe the cart handle down and them keep them in place for my hands to hold on to while shopping. I use the wipes to open the coolers for dairy products, etc.

We have spent about $140 or less each trip.

Pig has been ordered! It will cost about $400 fully processed. Will work out to about $2.10 per lb on delivery.

@mark That's not bad at all! I've been thinking about it, but worry that we would waste a lot of it. We eat a fair amount of bacon and some various sausages. Other than that, I'll make ribs a couple of times a month and the occasional tenderloin, but that's it. I wouldn't mind getting a shoulder to work on pulled pork, but not till I get a smoker or a better grill.

Currently have five racks of ribs, 4-5 decent sized tenderloins, 5 lbs of farm-fresh bacon, 5 lbs of store-bought bacon, maybe 3 meals worth of brats, 3 meals worth of Italian sausage, and 2 rolls of breakfast sausage.
