Western civilization teeters on the precipice and the progressive women are backing up to it and pushing with all their compassion. At least they'll die knowing they were on the right side of history. I guess that was always the goal.

Off topic but Ayn Rand is buried a mere 6mi from me. Her gravestone lists her as Ayn Rand O’Connor, apparently her choice as her husband predeceased her. A few dozen meters from her lies one Sergei Vasilyevich Rachmaninoff.

@kluurs said in Are you ready for ghost and goblins?: This is from last year when we had 180 treaters. [image: 1698801757248-e153f507-7578-4194-ab43-c22a9b08cf9a-image.png] We only had fewer than 50 this year. Why do you think that happened?

Not so independent... https://justthenews.com/accountability/whistleblowers/weiss-needed-approval-tax-division-bring-hunter-biden-charges-doj-tax?utm_source=justthenews.com&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=external-news-aggregators The Justice Department's chief tax prosecutor has told Congress that Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss could not bring tax evasion charges against Hunter Biden without getting prior approval from his office, further undercutting Attorney General Merrick Garland's portrayal that the politically sensitive probe was completely independent. In an transcribed interview with the House Judiciary Committee reviewed by Just the News, Acting Assistant Attorney General Stuart Goldberg, the current chief of the DOJ tax division, also acknowledged that Hunter Biden's case got special attention because of his father's political stature. “Was the fact that Hunter Biden was involved here, did that require DOJ Tax’s signoff because it’s a sensitive matter?” a House investigator asked during the interview last week. “Well, without getting into the case, again trying to answer a question at a slightly higher level, there are cases that are sensitive, people – some would say sensitive, sometimes say significant cases. And those cases typically have closer supervision than other, more run of the mill cases,” Goldberg answered. Goldberg's account supports testimony from IRS whistleblowers Gary Shapley and Joseph Ziegler that DOJ treated the first's son tax case differently and that Weiss could not bring the charges against Hunter Biden without blessings from the tax division and the U.S. Attorneys in Washington D.C. and Los Angeles, where the alleged crimes occurred. Both of those local prosecutors – Miguel Estrada and Matthew Graves – were Biden appointees and have already admitted they refused to partner with Weiss and bring charges against President Joe Biden's son. Goldberg's interview is the latest evidence to surface to support House and Senate Republicans' efforts to challenge the the veracity of Garland's testimony earlier this year that Weiss had independent authority to bring Hunter Biden criminal charges, free of political interference.

For sure he left his mark, and I had a bitter respect for him as a Purdue student in the 80s. But he could definitely take it too far and get out of hand.

I just looked it up: Russell was quoting William James. William James describes a man who got the experience from laughing-gas; whenever he was under its influence, he knew the secret of the universe, but when he came to, he had forgotten it. At last, with immense effort, he wrote down the secret before the vision had faded. When completely recovered, he rushed to see what he had written. It was: "A smell of petroleum prevails throughout. Where we lived in Ontario cottage country a surprising number of people were killed every year snowmobiling drunk. They'd wipe out because you couldn't see the wooden construction on the lake under the snow. I worked with a guy who used to be hired to dive to pick up snowmobiles that went into the lake after people misjudged the thickness of the ice. They used to dare each other to jump over the melted bit, with predictable results.
