A good friend of mine, today rolling in money from his HFT job, once told me that he ate ‘government cheese’ growing up. I didn’t know it was a thing before then.

My wife is uber risk averse, it took a while to convince her to move her money from a savings account earning like 0.25% to a Capital One 360 performance savings account earning 4.25%. I told her she is literally losing money leaving it in a normal savings account that is less than inflation.

1, 2 & 3 - He's addressing infusions and brand names, future plans. Hell yes. That is true of so many things we've offshored over the years. Also hell yes. Support your local businesses or you won't have local businesses.

@Doctor-Phibes said in The Kingmaker: Just last week people were saying Obama really didn't want Kamala to be nominated. He was one of the last big names to endorse her. Also the article simply states that ‘Obama got her the vice presidential nod’. Ok. Evidence? I’m surprised this is in Tablet, not the American “Thinker”.

@taiwan_girl I know the trilogy well, I read all three volumes a couple of years ago. There are a few similarities particularly in current continental Europe rather than North America. Specifically how traditional conservatism has been supplanted and relegated to near irrelevancy. This is especially the case in Eastern Europe.

that is great. The focus of the others on the pack was so great that they "forgot" about the leader.

@Jolly said in Jon Buys Votes: Gotta have a tax system where everybody has skin in the game. At least that way, when voters want new programs or projects, everybody has to pony up. I agree with this. Sense of "ownership"

Gerry mandering is terrible and should go away. Instead, DeWine wants Ohio lawmakers to adopt Iowa's redistricting model, where the state's nonpartisan legislative service commission draws districts that lawmakers then approve. Not a bad idea. Backers of the amendment, called Citizens Not Politicians, say the changes are needed to prevent gerrymandering, which is when one political party draws districts to favor their candidates unfairly and disproportionately. But DeWine contends that's exactly what the measure would do. "Ohio would have gerrymandering in the extreme," said DeWine, a Republican who has repeatedly said he wants to remove politicians from the redistricting process. Not sure it could get worse than what we are seeing in US states now. LOL When in Wash DC recently, briefly met with a US representative (hint: the only hard science PhD in congress). Not a main topic, but one of the things that came up as an aside was an aside after looking at the states map was how districts are made up and he admitted it was not good. He said that there was a push in the state to but a question on the ballot to "de-politicize" drawing of districts, but the State Supreme Court said it was unconstitutional.
