@axtremus said in Vernon Jones ditches the Democrats: @jolly said in Vernon Jones ditches the Democrats: ... If you take a look at much of the black community, they are socially conservative, religious and seek upward social mobility. I think they fit better in the GOP, than in today's Dem party. Why do you think most members of the black community identify as Democrats other the Republican then? There is roughly about 10x more Black Americans who identify as Democrats than there are Black Americans who identify as Republicans. A couple of things... The black community is a tight community. Community members are loathe to appear as being too white or be deemed Oreos. Sometimes, they go along to get along. LBJ said he would have them voting Dem for 100 years...Maybe he was right. Many inner city blacks are chained to the Gibmedat Plantation.

Don’t recall him tweeting other riots and what happened to police, because that’s not his job. Josh is a CNN journalist and worked directly for Mueller but he only cares about police hurt by certain people.

I am confident that the Office of POTUS carries sufficient E&O insurance to cover civil liability claims of this nature.

Re the inauguration: Trump will be "there" whether he's there or not. So he might as well stay away.

@xenon said in Market holding strong: Even with a weak jobs report, it's slightly up. (I'm guessing it makes stimulus even more likely?) As a sidenote - I finally got back into the market in a big way this new year (after crawling out of grad school debt and then buying a house). I'm lamenting my old positions that I liquidated for grad school years back. Chief among them was my $40K in Amazon at an average cost of $140 (I think I sold for like $280 or something and felt ok about it). Had some decent positions in other tech stocks as well. Ah well - starting again from this week. Ugh that Amazon sale hurts, but investing (like gambling) is really painful if you open the "what could've been" hindsight can of worms. Congrats on the house and clearing the grad school debt, btw!

@george-k said in If you like British detective shows....: I really preferred a story like Broadchurch with an arc that reaches over several episodes. I enjoyed it quite a bit too. Kind of depressing but I thought quite well done.

@jolly said in How are these guys going to explain themselves to the slain officer's family?: Ever stop to think the police may have thought there wouldn't be violence? After all, there gave been many pro-Trump events in Washington over the past four years. How many turned violent? I just find it hard to believe that they would not "prepare for the worse, hope for the best" It wasn't like they were guarding a used car lot.
