Where Brosnan and Moore were ready-cast slick spies, Connery was rough-and-ready.

Yeah, and Craig continued in that vein. If you read Fleming's "Casino Royale" you'll find that Craig's Bond is pretty spot on in the movie with the same name.

    M: "How did he die?"
    007: "Poorly."

007 is NOT a nice person. He's hard-edged, determined and focused. Other than Connery and Craig, I think Brosnan was closest (but that's not to say close) to the vision of Fleming. Craig, IMO, wins that.

Remember the conversation about Idris Elba? According to your article, he (as many others) is too old.

Hiddleston is smooth, as the article says (see "The Night Manager") and might pull it off. I don't know enough about Hardy's work in this genre to have an opinion.

Who TF are James Norton, Sam Heughan, Jack Lowden, and Richard Madden????

Chelsea Wolfe is likely the next Bond girl.

I can see Tom Hardy more than Hiddleston.

Richard Madden and Jack Lowdon are too pretty. But maybe that's what they want?

The Craig movies are fine but he doesn’t seem like Bond to me.

Not refined enough in that old-school sense. Too dark.

              Love the films though.

Connery had an impish quality to his interpretation of Bond. And yeah, Craig is darker to be sure.

But (and I've only read one Bond book in the last 10 years, so if I'm off base, excuse me), in Casino Royale, the first 007 book, Bond comes off pretty dark. I thought Craig's characterization was spot-on.

I think they should go in a completely different direction entirely.

I'm rooting for Anthony Hopkins or Patrick Stewart.

It would sure beat making the same movie over and over again for nigh on 60 years.

As far as villains go, I wonder if they've considered having a character with some form of disability, and a sinister foreign accent?

That would be great. I wonder if he'd do it?

Craig was whining after one of those movies that the work was too hard, but I doubt Hardy would mind that part of it.

                            Really

News leaked this past April that Lashana Lynch’s role in the James Bond tentpole “No Time to Die” would be that of the new 007, making her the first Black woman to take on Bond’s famous digits.

If you don't like James Bond, you can always make your own completely derivative series of mindless movies.

Oh sorry, they already did that.

Idris Elba Back in Talks to Star as James Bond

After actor Daniel Craig vacated his role as the suave, globetrotting 007, rumors began to swirl as to who should replace him. At the moment, bookies still view former Bridgerton hunk Rege-Jean Page as the favorite to put on the tux with odds of 5/2. Coming in at a close second is Henry Cavill at 4/1, Aidan Turner at 8/1, Tom Hardy at 6/1 and Idris Elba at 12/1. However, the word is, after scoring favorably in market research, producers are considering Elba for the role coveted role of James Bond.

In 2019, the 49-year-old Brit admitted that he would love to play Bond. He said: “James Bond is a hugely coveted, iconic, beloved character that takes audiences on this massive escapism journey. Of course, if someone said to me, ‘Do you want to play James Bond?,’ I’d be like, ‘Yeah!’”

Idris Elba Wanted as the Next James Bond?
While Elba had expressed interest in playing Bond, he also discussed the prospect of playing a villain in the next film. At the time, the powers-that-be did not want Elba as a nemesis. Recently, a source spoke to The Sun newspaper and stated: “Idris has long been in talks to play a role in the next era of James Bond’s story and last year was being considered for a role as an antagonist. However, talks surrounding him playing the lead have started again as producers realized how popular he would be after carrying out secret market research. He ranked highly among the diverse group of movie buffs invited to participate in it. They didn’t want to see him as a nemesis, they want him as the hero.”

Earlier this year, James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli even confirmed that the Luther star had been in the running for the iconic role, stating: “We know Idris, I’m friends with him. He’s a magnificent actor. You know, he has been part of the conversation, but it's always difficult to have conversations when you have somebody in the seat.”
Elba, who has had starring roles in the hit crime drama The Wire and Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, recently finished the feature-length film of his crime drama Luther. His next project, a dark fantasy, Three Thousand Years of Longing set to hit theaters on August 31, followed by Apple’s thriller Hijack, which Elba will produce as well as star in.
