I just subscribed to Paramount+ $50 for a year, paid in advance

I didn't really need another streaming network, but they have Top Gun Maverick starting in a couple days.

My wife likes the CBS shows, so it is a good deal.

Watching Three Pines on Prime right now. Based on the Inspector Gamache book series. @George-K and anyone who likes detective procedurals might like it.

Pros: Interesting story construction. There are longer narratives that take place over a whole season, but also different cases that split the episodes into a Part 1 and Part 2 for those. What's fun is, this creates recurring characters for awhile as Gamache spends time in the town. (I've been told that I'll be Ruth when I get older. Which isn't fair at all. I'm not into ducks.)

Also, decent enough mysteries and copwork, and the characters do develop.

Cons: Eh, it doesn't exactly break new ground. And it can get a little tropey. But they don't screw it up too bad, either. Enjoyable enough.

      Please love yourself.

@Aqua-Letifer looks like it might be fun. Each mysterie is 2 episodes, so it's not a huge commitment if I don't like.

        Added to my watchlist.

        Thanks.

          Also, regarding Willow,

Amar Chadha-Patel is a fucking CHAMPION. The show is so bad. It's so bad. The cast, the crew, the writers, the director, the video editors, fucking camera operators for crying out loud—everything about this show is amateur hour. Even Warwick Davis absolutely sucks. It's not his fault—the writing's so shit that he couldn't save it.

But Amar Chadha-Patel is a beast. He's so obviously the adult in the room in every scene he's in. He elevates each total trainwreck into something almost worth watching. It's an absolute damn shame he's wasting his time.

          Please love yourself.

@taiwan_girl Nope, just an “extra” - which means background, no speaking. Though we did get to speak in this - we were protesting - we were temperance women - about the evils of alcohol - we got to SHOUT at the top of our lungs (after the first couple of takes, on the way out of the building, Harrison Ford looked at us and suggested we save our voices a little for later!). He, (or his double) rode in, dismounted, pushed through our little group - as we berated, yelled, shook our fingers - it was hilarious. We were LOUD. They filmed the whole scene from multiple angles, starting from the top of the building and slowly moving closer throughout the day - to the point that it was close up, and Harrison Ford and the one actress amount the rest of the 13 extras had lines - we had to go from shouting to mouthing silently what we had been shouting as soon as his foot hit the curb (so you could hear the lines) - that was way harder than it seems - to make it believable - and they had to do a couple of retakes because a few of the ladies messed up and kept yelling! Apparently if you have actual lines, you have to join the union, or something. But yelling in a crowd doesn’t count.

Hey, Star, here's a tip for your next appearance. In soap opera crowd scenes, like yours, behind the main speakers, the extras mouth (or say softly) "watermelon cantaloupe" over and over, because doing so most faithfully replicates ordinary speech.

We tried to watch Dog (movie) last night. Don't. Just don't.

Started Echo 3, a new series on AppleTV. Pretty good so far, not sure how they make a series out of it Might get Lost-ish, where it just spins and spins and goes nowhere. Might be good.

              Blackbird first episode. pretty good.

Will probably watch Emancipation this week.

Just finished the 2nd season of White Lotus.

Highly recommend. There's very little continuity between the seasons and they're 6-7 episodes each.

                Great, great TV.

I stand by my earlier assessment. Bunch of rich weirdos who give me no reason to invest in their stories at a five-star hotel. The only reason to continue is to watch F. Murray Abraham.

But it's not a good enough reason.

Top Gun Maverick hit Paramount+ today

It was about the same movie as the first one

That's ok, the first one was fun, so is this

My experience is that pilots don't really do a lot of that stuff, but I never attended Top Gun

In fact if I was your instructor, sometime during your first lesson you would hear me say "we don't do that Goose and Maverick stuff here".

Watched the first two episodes yesterday. It's really not bad. But the bigger question is, "Is it GOOD."

                      Nah. It's mediocre.

Big city copper gets sent to backwater town to investigate murder of EXTREMELY unlikable woman who is murdered by an unlikely character....with no foretelling of motive other than 30 seconds in the 1st 10 minutes of the show

                      Yeah.

It was OK. Probably 2.5 out of 4 stars.

@Aqua-Letifer I also didn't understand why the sub-plot of the missing indigenous girl was thrown in. It added nothing to the story, other than to act as a bit of a diversion. It had a totally unsatisfying resolution to that plot.

Is episode 2, the second murder, any better?

And, if you want to see quirky cops in snow attire, gimme Fargo, or for that matter, Lillehammer.

The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.

@Aqua-Letifer I also didn't understand why the sub-plot of the missing indigenous girl was thrown in. It added nothing to the story, other than to act as a bit of a diversion. It had a totally unsatisfying resolution to that plot.

Is episode 2, the second murder, any better?

Uh, no, that's the season's narrative arc. That doesn't go away after the 2-part mystery is resolved.

Is episode 2, the second murder, any better?

Same town, learn more about the townsfolk. So yes. And the quirky cop drops the ball but gets better, that's her thing

                            Please love yourself.

                              Willow’s that bad? That’s a shame…

                              Anybody watch Wednesday?

The problem is time. I don’t get how you all have so much time for these shows.

                                          I am watching 1923, though, and I think I heard @jodi !
