I’ve been in that room and seen that painting. I took a picture of it before noticing the sign that said not to.

This is typical of the soulless comedies being produced today. The Office, Parks and Rec...the theme being 'look how stupid ordinary people are'. It is that same kind of snide stuff I cannot abide in Colbert.

Started watching "The Shield." Only a couple of episodes in, but it's very interesting. Some characters are caricatures, but it's engrossing, to be sure. Enjoying Walton Goggins, of course.

Always Goggins. Whatever he is in. The Unicorn is kind of DOA but his work is really good as usual.

Almost finished watching "Crash Landing To You". It is a Korean drama about a hi-so Korean young lady who, during a hanggliding trip, is caught in a storm and blown to North Korea.

Kind of a Romeo- Juliet romance. It is very "Asian" in parts, but I am enjoying it quite a bit. Having spent time in both ROK and DPRK, it is fun to see the show with that eyes.

It is 15 episodes, each one 1 - 1.5 hours long.

Fun show, but I am not sure how well it would do with US audiences.

(BTW, it has English subtitles so you dont need to know Korean language).

After my ex and I separated, I dated around a lot. C'mon, I was an intern, and there was this huge hospital full of pretty young nurses.

There was one, in particular, who really struck my face. Turns out that her family was from Korea, I think, and her dad was a radiologist.

Her name was Jennifer. I still fantasize about her, now and then.

Watched the 1st two episodes of Season 1.

It's...OK. I'm not enthralled so far. Seems to set up too much stuff for later resolution, and the 90 minute first episode was little more than "Let me introduce you to the characters and set up the crisis for the rest of the season."

Costner is good. Much of the supporting cast seems to be caricatured:

                            • The slick lawyer son
                            • The daughter with a drug/alcohol problem who's a bitch
                            • The (not really a son) guy who's treated like a son
                            • Reservation characters - Didn't "Longmire" do that, and so far, better (Lou Diamond Phillips)?
                            • Corporate greed - yeah, Longmire did that too.

I'll give it another few chances, but...

It's like "Dallas" for the 2000s. Usual dysfunctional family. Usual fabulously wealthy head of the family. Usual nefarious people trying to get his money/land. Random characters introduced midway through the season (Walker) because, well, they needed to do something.

                              Not impressed.

If there were nothing else I wanted to watch, I'd plunge in, but there's so much more in my queue that I'll put this on a far back burner for now.

Watching another Korean Drama, "Something in the Rain"

"When a single career woman reunites with her best friend's younger brother after he returns from three years of working abroad, their efforts to reconnect grow into romance."

Another 16 episode series, each episode about 100 minutes. Two main stories in the series

The first is about an older (maybe 35 year old) lady who starts to date her friends younger brother, who is maybe 25-30. I know alot of people on this forum board are probably saying, "so what", but in Korea, this is a big and unusual situation. Jin-Ah is still living at home and has a lot of "pushback" from her mother on dating a younger guy who is not from an "approved" family.

The second story line is about the ladies working environment. Jin-Ah works in the head office for a "Starbucks" type company, and it is interesting (and I think pretty accurate) on the office situation, especially how female workers are treated. I saw it happen more than once when I was there in Korea.

                                  Link to video

SUMMARY: If you want an insight into Korean culture (and a bit into North Asia culture), this is a good show to watch. Culturally, it shows a part of Korea that Westerners probably do not are aware of and may have trouble in understanding why people think the way that they do.

The series was probably a bit too long by a couple of episodes, as some parts take a while to move the plot forward.

However, I enjoyed it. Some of the things and characters shown are a bit exaggerated, but overall, pretty true to life.

(PS It does have sub titles, so no need to be good in Korean language).

Hanging in there with Fringe. It improved a bit. Will pause after Season 1

Recently finished an 11-episode series titled “(the) Daughter of Lupin.” It is worth putting up with subtitles (the dialogue audio is in Japanese only) as it’s a fun series to watch.

“The Map of Tiny Perfect Things” is also a nice “time loop” movie to watch. Sufficiently different from “Groundhog Day” and “The Edge of Tomorrow”, it introduces something different into the genre.

Started "Peaky Blinders" the other day. Watched 3 episodes.

Interesting, but I'm not hopeful that it'll turn out to be warmed-over Sopranos in the 1920s. Sets, costumes, acting are all first-rate (and I love Sam Neill), but the storyline seems pretty recycled.

The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.
