    May they go broke. Now.

Tesla and all those Internet connected cars ... you can "lose access" to those too at any time.

Peloton always seemed like a scam to me. Ever since I saw their TDF bike. I was like, yeah, no thanks.

Talk to actual peloton owners. They are crazy in love. I will tell you it’s also the first indoor product that doesn’t become an instant clothes hangar.

Yeah go build your own and duct tape an IPad to it. Let me know in a month if you are still using it.

This country is spending about 3 trillion now on sedentary related issues.

That overpriced Peleton has an incredible ROI to your healthcare wallet, your longetivity, your quality of life and belonging to a tribe.

            It’s dirt cheap.

Proper cyclists (I'm not one of them) use trainers and their actual bikes, and it's still cheaper than Peloton, as well as being more like real cycling, plus you can take the bike outside. Radical idea, I know.

Having said that, I have a friend with a Peloton, and he absolutely loves it.

              I was only joking

I have no doubt that people love a high quality treadmill.

And the health benefits are terrific.

But you can get a high quality treadmill for half the price.

To be clear I don’t need the “engagement” of Peleton and neither do you but most people fail at exercise programs just like diets. Engagement is their secret sauce and that is what you are paying for.

                    https://gizmodo.com/peloton-s-new-tread-problem-is-a-reminder-that-you-don-1847149583

If you paid more than $4,000 for Peloton’s Tread+, you’d expect that treadmill to be yours. And it is. Kind of. But the thing you should know about connected devices is that ownership isn’t as straightforward as simply buying a gadget.

Yesterday, Peloton notified Tread+ owners that they would no longer be able to use the “Just Run” feature without subscribing to Peloton’s $40 monthly membership. “Just Run” was a mode that let you use the Tread+ without Peloton’s classes, and, crucially, without paying for that subscription. The reason Peloton gave for the change was its Tread Lock software update, which added a 4-digit passcode to prevent unauthorized access. Tread Lock is part of Peloton’s voluntary recall for the Tread+, following numerous reports of injuries and in one case, a child’s death. The response on Twitter has not been kind. Some went as far as to call this ransom and extortion under the guise of improving consumer safety.

“Unfortunately, Tread Lock is not yet available without a Peloton Membership, which means Tread+ owners without a subscription cannot access Just Run at this time,” a Peloton spokesperson told Gizmodo in an email. “We waived three months of All-Access Membership for all Tread+ owners.”

“We understand that this is an inconvenience for some and are working on updates to Tread Lock that will allow us to make Tread Lock and Just Run available without a Peloton Membership,” the spokesperson went on to say.

Then make it available, ya cheap thieving barstids!

If I were an owner of this thing, I'd be so mad that I'd go to the trouble and expense of packing it up and sending it back to the vendor with a nasty note. If I was really mad, I'd set up some kind of pay-per-view email with a notation that anyone wishing to send me email -- say a vendor wishing to explain his shitty policies -- would be billed $500 for the privilege.

                    After the fact.

I always hated the idea of Onstar. Call me crazy, but a voice from the ether talking at me through my car just spooked me all out.

It's a stupid mistake for sure, but it looks like they are trying to make it right. They are waving three months of subscription fees while they work on a software update to bring back "free run" without requiring subscription.
