I'd say it doesn't really matter much what political beliefs the majority of Twitter users have, as long as there's a sufficient number of users who share your interests.
It's a customizable social media site: You mainly see the bubble you want to see. For instance, I have my work-related bubble on Twitter and political issues rarely pop up at all. Similarly, if you want to keep up to date with news on, I don't know, cell biology, or nuclear fusion, it's quite easy to configure a list for that purpose. And if you want to see only conservative or right-wing opinions, you can create a bubble for that, too.
