Cocaine was first known as a local anesthetic, so I'm not surprised to see this type of advertising.

It's also a good vasoconstrictor, minimizing bleeding should you need to put something into someone's nose (other than the powder, of course). I've used it dozens of times.

      Great for dilating eyes.

As cocaine developed more and more of a stigma, it became more and more difficult to get for medical uses. Whenever I had to put an endotracheal tube in someone's nose, I would use a solution of 4% cocaine. It was a great vasoconstrictor, and as I passed the tube, it was great at preventing bleeding as I crushed through the turbinates.

Its use was discouraged, as I said, and we had to make do with various concoctions and mixtures that were really never even close to being as good as cocaine.

Cocaine is the only naturally-occurring local anesthetic, and the first regional anesthetic, a spinal anesthetic was administered using cocaine in the late 19th century.

You should have seen the eyes of patients when I told them I'm going to put some cocaine in their nose, LOL.
