Thatās not at all unusual for the time. It was actually common practice among higher ranked families in Europe and the US for boys to wear dressing gowns until they were 6-8 years old. The whole thing was called breeching, when the boy would graduate to pants.

The man who examined the brain of McKinley's assassin, Leon Czolgosz, was Edward Anthony Spitzka, the son of the other Spitzka.
