Always nice to see an excellent craftsman at work, but I can’t imagine that many hours of labor being worth it except for the most expensive boots.

I have had leather half-soles replaced on a pair of Florsheim Imperial wingtips. Probably at least a few times, I remember it being a reasonable price.
Of course this is 40 or more years ago. I don't think this kind of cobbler's shop exists much anymore.

We have one. Old Chinese guy, Mr. Wing. Great guy, great work. But I no longer wear that type of shoe.

That's interesting. Reminds me of the pictures of people with two sets of eyes, and how profoundly disorienting it is to look at. It's all because we have so much software to interpret faces. It's a complex and huge bit of code, and it's relatively easy to make it crash.

I had shoes resoled too, also 30 years ago or so, but I doubt it was as much work as was put into those boots.

WHY???
Cables can get pricey, you know.
Note: It's on the tape input jacks, LOL.

I always wonder whether those things are part of a daily grind, or carefully scripted one-offs. Plenty of the latter in that set. Still cool though.

it was disheartening to see how many were actual hacks, to make something look like something else… Why have a brick accent wall? Use this technique to make Sheetrock look line bricks… That kind of stuff…
-
midway through there was a guy laying pavers at the pool. Rather than just lift the paver, he used some long and heavy looking vacuum device that required him to carry the paver AND the device at a very awkward height. It seems to me that it would have been easier to just pickup the paver…
