Movies shouldn't lecture, but no, movies don't just simply entertain. Those who think so are hopelessly out of touch.

The vast majority of movies have always been shit. And before you say 'Yes, but what about the classics????', how many movies from 1968 or 1935 does anybody go back and actually watch?

Also true! Sturgeon's Law is more true now than ever before.

Who reads the best seller novelists of the 50’s, 60’s,70’s, 80’s, 90’s, 2000’s?
The variety of new entertaining content I have access to has never been so great. I never get in the middle of an argument with a super fan or critic. A book, a movie, a sporting event, a concert either captures my full attention in the moment or it doesn’t. That’s what I call entertainment.

He keeps going on about how they bungled Justice League by switching to Whedon at the end and screwing with Snyder’s vision. Luke and I watched 1/2 of the Snyder cut and turned it off. It may not be as disjointed as the Joss Whedon final version, but that’s just because it’s bad all the way through.
Snyder did okay with 300, mostly due to great source material, but everything since then had bored the crap out of me.

Anywhere from five to seven a week.

I'll routinely go back and read some of those guys. Granted, many times it's a specific genre, but read I do.

He makes some good points.
But, when it comes to making a Youtube video, your job is to not bore me.
I lost interest in that interview a lot more quickly than I do in an average movie.
Sturgeon, heal thyself!

He goes on about Citizen Kane, but he doesn't mention all the shit that was being made back then. People always do that. It's like bemoaning the lack of The Beatles and Jimi Hendrix, but conveniently forgetting the fact that pretty much all the other pop music was dross.

I tried to watch Citizen Kane once. I was not entertained.
Yeah, it didn't do much for me, either. I find old movies awful. I hate that phoney faux British accent they all put on, and the squeaky buttoned-down morals.
-
I really liked pretty much all the Marvel movies.
They're not exactly thought-provoking.

Makes me think > entertains me.
Don't ever want to park your brain at the theater door?
Yes, sometimes. I can enjoy a mindless Marvel CGI superhero movie once a year. But not twice or thrice a year.

For me, one of the highlights of having young kids was taking them to the movies. Even though most kids' movies today are admittedly very PC, and driven by wokeness, you can still enjoy them. It's living in the moment.
It was a sad day when my two said they'd rather go to the movies with their own stupid friends.
