There's a famous race track not far from my place, the "Nürburgring". It is used for professional races, but when
no professional races take place, it is open to the public: You can pay 30 Euros or so and drive as fast as you want
with your private car. They call this "Touristenfahrt".

In practice it is of course used all day by Michael Schumacher wannabes, who want to see what their 300hp 3 series BMW can do, but have no clue about driving.

There's several channels on YT documenting the craziness of the "Touristenfahrt". Here's a sample.

Do they make you sign all sorts of legal waivers absolving them of all responsibilities before they let you drive there?

        That's awesome.

F1 driver Jackie Stewart (who once won there in the pouring rain by 4 minutes) called that circuit 'The Green Hell'.

        I was only joking

This is a much fun, or perhaps more, than watching the 11'8" underpass videos, because the stupid is bigger.

At 2:25, the guy whose driver-side front wheel is pinned to a right turn, and he keeps going, or tries to, LOL.

The guy on the motorcycle who you can almost hear saying, "GoddamnedmotherFUCKERpieceofshit!"

How'd you like to be the guy who has to clean up all the auto-bits?

Looks like there's a fair number of people who have a beater that they take out on the ring too.

The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.

Yeah, that one white disaster was a Kia I think. I'm surprised it could get enough speed to spin out.

These guys obviously never heard of straightening out curves by how you approach them.

I love the fact that this Touristenfahrt is permitted! Like, you wanna do it? Go for it! Nobody gonna tell you you can't do it!

We used to be like that. Good times.

It does look like a bit of an anachronism nowadays - similar to Mad Sunday, where the general public is allowed to ride the Isle of Man TT motorbike course.

It's funny, the Nordschleife circuit of the Nürburgring was deemed too dangerous for Formula 1 back in the 1970's after Niki Lauda's horrendous accident, but they still let these eejits drive.

I drive the Nürburgring every time I hop into the sim rig. I usually drive a Lamborghini. But have also raced with a Porsche, Mercedes, Ferarri. Even a Mazda and a BMW off road, in the mountains.

No need to waste use a real car. lol

I've read stories about people driving the Ring and coming across just horrendous motorbike accidents. The bike riders are crazy.

Not sure why I have this. Actually, I do know. A UK friend is a big motorcycle person and one time during a get together at my place, he showed this video and left it here. Talk about scary!!!!!!!

I think the guy who was the rider and filmer eventually died in a crash on that course. Definitely a palm sweating view to watch it.

It is just crazy to see how fast these guys go and how narrow the roads are and how sharp the turns are and how close to the buildings, etc!!!!!! Crazy!!!

It would be fun to drive it (slowly) to see it.

The Isle of Man TT is an unbelievable race, and Joey Dunlop was an amazing guy.

We went there on holiday when I was a kid - it was a short ferry hop from where I grew up. The roads over the mountains are really narrow.
