Anybody been to Asheville?

Lots of fun places to eat and one good night of poking around. A lodge half way up the mountain is a must do dinner, forget the name.

I knew a guy back in the day who was a financial commodities future trader who wanted to open a bike shop in Ashville - said he'd be happy to lose a hundred grand or year just for the fun of living there and having a bike shop.

The city has 2,000 miles of hiking and biking trails, a Downtown that's blissfully walkable, and a 60ft natural water slide in Pisgah National Forest. It's not a hippie town in the sense of streets filled with tie-dye and head shops. But for outdoorsy hippies, nowhere in the state is better. And even if you're not a hippie it's one of the best US cities to spend the weekend in.

Maybe not so many hippie shops but they fill certain streets. I have no issue with it, but it is striking, kind of like strolling around Northampton, MA.

We're going on an anniversary trip with MFR's sister (also redhead) and her husband. aside from Biltmore, any recommendations?

Only been to Biltmore.

We rented a house up on top of Town Mountain. Should be nice. Of course we will go to Biltmore, but other than that not sure. Maybe a drive on the parkway and some small side hikes. Did you know Asheville has 40 craft breweries?
Then on to Winston Salem to see The Princess. We have tix for the Winston Salem Dash (WhiteSox farm team). First row behind home plate - $11. I love minor league ball, and the ballparks are all new.

It's been nearly 20 years since we were there, long before the craft brewery trend. Hubby would love it.
