Thanks for the corrected link, @Klaus.

@Jolly, what is it that you want to fix?

One of the things they are fixing is the results. Apparently, China can choose certain regions that get to represent the entire country. If the US could do the same, their results would look better, although they'd still not be top.

If Massachusetts were a country, it would rank 9th in the world

All scores. I'm not burning to be at the top in everything, but I would like the U.S to at least be in the top ten. I understand we educate students a bit differently, but surely we can do better.

I hear quite a lot of people in the US saying that education is over-rated.

Maybe that isn't the best attitude to have if you want to have great education.

Well, maybe we just refer to them differently, call them “reading training” and “math training” respectively.

Ok, more seriously, we see that Massachusetts and New Jersey and Vermont are scoring very high. May be the other states should run their education related things more like Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Vermont?

I've said education is overrated, but training is not. Maybe Lufins dad has a point in this discussion.

Maybe we are trying to educate some people, when we should have training programs such as the German apprenticeship?

                What do they do different?

They have lots of private schools.

I'm not current on this, but growing up in Boston more than half of K-12 students were in (very cheap) private schools.

Those schools aren't as cheap anymore, but people (like my sister) still insist on the private school over the public school.

Our school is excellent, and it's public. It was one of the reasons we decided to live here.

15% of the student population live in a culture that demeans and belittles academic success and accomplishment. Another 8% is put at an extreme disadvantage by not speaking English. We have an education system that is more focused inequity than individual success. American educators are now telling us that math is racist, and “getting the right answers” and “showing your work” are given as examples of white supremacy. https://katu.com/news/local/debate-emerges-over-racism-and-white-supremacy-in-math-instruction.

I wonder why we are failing...
