The language used by Jefferson isn't exactly helpful, either. He's playing to the peanut gallery.
Clearly, Fauci is a political animal. If he wasn't, he'd have told him to go fuck himself.
Absolute and utter male bovine scat. I'll bet you my next retirement check that Fauci & Crew have kicked around the question Jefferson asked, and have arrived at an approximate number.
The country is fixing to go tell Fauci to fuck himself. Much of the country already has...Note the piece I posted about vaccines piling up,because people won't take them.
I would seem it in the best public interest for Fauci to give an approximate number, and then urge Congress to help make that number a reality.
What he came off as, was a consumate swamp creature, reminding us why he is the highest ($417,000) paid bureaucrat in Washington.

Yeah, I know certain people have been demonizing Fauci.
Personally, I felt that he did a much better job of alerting us to the dangers of Covid than almost all politicians.
Also, implying Fauci is to blame for the fact that a bunch of Americans won't take the vaccine really is a bit much.

Fauci is net positive. In fact what he said early on in super important in countering the nonsense about what Trump knew and when.

The problem with Trump wasn't what he knew or didn't know, but his lack of consistency in communicating it.
He really made a mess of the communication. I actually think the US did a pretty good job of implementation, but the communication from POTUS was just awful. All those silly little off-the-cuff remarks are fine if you're talking about the economy or how awful the opposition are etc., but they really aren't appropriate when you're trying to persuade people of the seriousness of a pandemic.
It also has to be said that he gave the impression that the most important thing on his mind during the entire year was the election result.

I didn't say he was to blame for people not taking the vaccine.
What I am saying, is that for whatever reason, people are not taking it. Maybe after it's available for all, the numbers will look better.
Fauci's job is to make sense of the numbers and inform our leaders as to the threat and nature of infectious diseases. He knows the numbers on COVID abatement already.
As I said, he should have looked Jefferson in the eye and said, "Sir, we are fairly confident that when X% of Americans are vaccinated, most of normal life will return. We can have concerts, ballgames, weddings and funerals. We can ditch our masks. COVID will always be with us, but we know know what actions to take".

I agree with @Loki and @Doctor-Phibes
But @Jolly is right. People are becoming tired in the US. (Actually everywhere in the world they are. Thailand cases are increasing. Still pretty low compared to alot of countries, but still going up more than almost anytime in the past)
They should have a best guess - Add a 10 or 15 percent "overage" to be safe.

If only Jim Jordan had shown the same kind of concern for people being 'assaulted' when the wresters he was coaching were being sexually abused.
Fuck that guy.

You do know that the law firm of Perkins Coie did a full investigation for Ohio State and found no evidence that Jordan knew about the abuse.
Of course, you probably forgot that inconvenient fact.

Sure, and OJ was innocent and Trump never had sex with Stormy Daniels.

IOW, it doesn't matter what investigations or provable facts show. Maybe something will come out in court, but for right now...
It's interesting...I looked back at the news stories and most were NBC, WaPo and NYT. All had stories about allegations. Now, seeing as how Jordan was an ardent Trump supporter, and all three of those media outlets edited news, withheld beneficial news or just outright lied when it came to Trump, because they hated Trump, pardon me if I take what they write about any Trump supporter with a wee grain of salt.

I don’t know that much about it but the independent investigation has all the markings of the most legit kind of thing possible. Check it out.

OK, OK, I'm an asshole. But you knew that.
I still thought his language was ridiculous.

And that's fine. I think he was too strident, also.
But I think his question was a very, very good one.

He'd have been better just asking it, rather than going with all the theatrics, because what you notice is the the theatrics, and not Fauci's unwillingness to commit.
