Piano goals
-
TNCR age thread got me thinking.
I've not been very intentional about my goals with the piano. I may have some time over the next few weeks to put some work back in.
Where I think I want to get to:
-
Accompaniment to others singing. Spontaneous singing is luckily a thing in my extended family (and I'm hoping among my kids too)
-
Basic composition and improv (something at the level of simple pop songs)
Where I am:
-
Decent enough technical skills. I can play passable versions of things like Maple leaf rag, or Reverie (as with most of my memorized pieces - I get significantly crappier the longer I go... maybe even exponentially)
-
Not much interest, time or desire to really hone my technical craft (hoping that just gets better as I'm having fun at this point)
-
I'm decent at playing by ear (but only really for melody. Chords are a bit harder)
-
I can read sheet music, obv. But slow. I can't sight read
-
I've never had a teacher (only picked it up in college)
So - that's perhaps more context than necessary for a simple question. Any good resources for composition and improv? (I don't find studying music theory dry)
