Why should we take in refugees?

Because unlike some illegal immigrants, refugees contribute far more to the economy than they use in public services. They're a better investment, any way you'd want to look at it.

Does Kamala has oversight over the refugees too? Maybe the delay is just about new procedure formulation.

Exactly. The only reason the population of the US is not in a downward circle is because of immigrants.

Look at Japan and Italy as examples of countries that are in a downward circle of population.

OK, so we don't really want illegals or refugees.

          We want good investments.

          Good idea

Let's put a dollar value on each of these people and then simply sort them.

Well, I have heard that Japan does not like auslanders i.e., foreigners.
I've heard that Italy likes everyone that likes Italy, for the most part. I mean, who doesn't like Italian food (as opposed to those disgusting raw fish sushi stuff)?

When my parents immigrated to this country, they had to have a job lined up first, before being considered. There were other hurdles as well I won't get in to. Point is, that scenario for immigration was completely different than what is taking place now at our southern border.

            Too wide a brush?

My understanding is that Biden reneged on his campaign promise to increase the allowed number of refugees and so is keeping the cap set by Trump.

Do you want educated Europeans with specific political values? Or do you want “hungry” hustlers from under-developed countries?

It’s not a simple dichotomy like that - but what makes a good immigrant is not cut/dry.

I think I’ve brought this example up before - but Canada radically changed its immigration policy.

They weighted it more towards skills and education.

I’ve always been in favor of this in principle. But some results were unexpected.

The new policy selected for higher class individuals- I noticed a big shift in the Indian population.

These new peoples’ mindset often isn’t compatible with working you way up from the bottom (they’ve never been anywhere near the bottom in their old country).

I noticed poorer assimilation. Maybe they’ll get there. These were mostly colleged age young people.

No matter.... he's changed it now, walking it back and saying he's going to increase it.
