In the USA, there was no law that require "voter ID" at the polls before 1950.

Irrelevant to my point. By your argument, anyone can walk up to a polling place and vote.

    Right?

    What safeguards do you propose?

    Oh, never mind....

    None.

Ideally, I want national ID for every resident (not just citizen; the ID itself can indicate citizenship or other non-citizen status), and make that the basis for identify verification for all manners of official businesses, including voting.

Until we get to a point where every one has ID, I am content to keep going with the status quo. Until some one shows me what widespread problem there is with the current system, then I am open to considering solutions that might address said problem. As long as we stay in a situation where many people still do not have IDs and there is no widespread problem to specifically address, I see no reason to make any widespread changes.

In other words, you like fraud.

He likes votes that he knows statistically will go to his tribe. He'd prefer those votes to be non-fraudulent, but fraud is secondary to votes going to his tribe.

I can see both sides of this - firstly, a photo-ID clearly makes sense for any number of activities, assuming you can ensure that it isn't going to further alienate people who may already feel disenfranchised for whatever reason. On the other hand, the level of demonstrated voting fraud would appear to be very low, so you're trying to solve a problem that doesn't really seem to exist, former President Trump's unsubstantiated claims notwithstanding.

There's a similar argument currently going on in the UK.

        I was only joking

It would be interesting to know. But considering that investigative journalists would be excommunicated from society and their economic viability if they delved too deep into such things, I don't believe anybody knows.

I am in favor of ID for voting. Makes sense to me. In today's world in a 1st world country, there is really no reason that someone cannot get an ID (or at least it would only be a very small minority I believe).

(On the same basis, I think that an ID should be required to buy a gun. No more "gun show loophole". That only makes sense also.)

HAMPTON FALLS, IA—White liberals gathered in the town of Hampton Falls were shocked and astonished as local black man, accountant, and father of three Michael Sparkton walked right into a DOT office and acquired an ID without any assistance from liberals whatsoever.

"It was amazing -- he was smart, clean, and articulate enough to walk right in and acquire the ID without consulting us white people at all," said anti-racist activist Chloe Ryder to reporters. "He walked right in and got the ID, no questions asked. We thought it would be way above his intelligence level because, well. You know what I'm saying, right? Yeah. You know."

Reporters said they did not know, and Ryder was forced to whisper, "because he's black and I don't think he's capable of doing it!"

At publishing time, the liberals were amazed to see he had walked up to a vending machine and purchased a bottle of water all by himself.

lol woke white people are so racist, truth. I really feel sorry for them and their internal struggles with their own horrible racism.

Today, I saw a story talking about the number of people, by race, who already have a government-issued ID.

The "races" were White, Black, Hispanic, Native American, Asian, iirc.

None of them, not a single one had less than 95% with a government-issued ID.

Don't tell me that getting an ID is a burden. Chances are, you already have one.

                      Seems karmically balanced, yes.
