So as not to derail Klaus' thread about "pay to publish...."
The other day, as I was trying to get back to sleep after waking at 3 AM, I ended up thinking about my early days in training. This was before I married, and I was totally immersed in my chosen profession.
I remember going to the medical school library, on a Saturday morning, and going to the stacks were the copies of "Anesthesiology" and "Anesthesia and Analgesia" were kept. I'd pick up about 3-4 years from each journal, a total of about 6 "books" and retire to a desk and then pore through them, trying to absorb the knowledge of the golden days of my profession - the late 1960s and early 1970s. I would spend the entire morning going through them.
Good times.
Sorry, I've had a bit too much (cheap) Scotch this evening, and I'm waxing nostalgic.
