She's 94. According to my sources, the oldest British monarch to ascend the throne was William IV, at 64. Charles is 72.

Oh, he's famous for making off-the-cuff dodgy remarks. He once said to somebody working in Asia that they'd get slitty eyes if they worked there too long.

Some real clangers in there. I recall him dropping one in Calgary back in the '60s when he was presented with a white cowboy hat. Something to the effect he was sure it would make a good flower pot or some such thing. Gave more than a few people something to harumpf about for a few days.

The queen met him when she was 13; she's 94 now. I can't image the sense of loss she must feel.

Phibes, what is the country-wide mourning protocol in England? Ie, here there is lowering the flag to half mast for a period of time. What about the queen and/or the palace?
