Phibes, what is the country-wide mourning protocol in England? Ie, here there is lowering the flag to half mast for a period of time. What about the queen and/or the palace?
Flags will be flown at half mast, which is much more unusual there than in the US. Black armbands for officials. Royal engagements will be cancelled. I think the one flag that isn't lowered is the one at Buckingham Palace.
It will be a pretty big deal over there, although they've asked the public not to leave flowers or gather due to Covid.

Philip was also the great great grandson to Tsar Nicholas I (d. 1855). It was because of that direct ancestral link to the Romanovs, that Philip provided genetic material to assist in identifying the remains of Nicholas II and his family found near Ekaterinburg back in the 1990s.

Wow. What a fascinating story that must have been!

Fun pictures.
Is it just me, or did people look "older" than their age back then? I see his engagement picture where he is 25(?) and he looks much older to me.
(It is not only Prince Philip, but I have seen it with others. Maybe it is just the style of dress and hair back then. )

A lot of them had done a lot more by the time they were 25 back then.

Indeed.

Oddly enough, I know of plenty of non-Covid deaths - it must be my age.
In my team of 7 engineers, 4 of us, including me, have lost a parent, none of them to Covid, in the last year.
