I was in 7th grade. I heard at school, or maybe even on the bus. Got home and my mother didn’t know yet.

My recollection was that the seriousness of his injury was down played and we didn’t know until later the danger to his life. I also remember he was not so popular and surviving the shot was a big turning point for him.

Finally I knew a few people who said nothing of the attempt on Reagan but thought Lennon’s pass was the end of the world.

          Good book.

The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.

I told this story over at The Old New Coffee Room:

            (Brief aside)

'bout 15 25 years ago now , I pre-op'ed a guy for a knee 'scope. His history was totally unremarkable, other then "Hx of GSW" (History of Gunshot Wound). As I walked to the room to see him, I had all the prejudiced thoughts one has when one reads this. Upon entering the room, I found him sitting on the bed, feet on the floor, staring straight ahead, serious as could be, Then, the face and the name (McCarthy) clicked. He was one of the guys that took bullets the day Reagan was shot.

I didn't ask him about it, and no, he didn't have a sense of humor, even 10 years later.

I remember it really well. I was at work as a parts driver.

My wife saw Mr. Reagan get shot from maybe 15-20 yards away, she was coming back to the office after lunch and was on the sidewalk across the street.

I saw Jimmy Carter walk out that door many times

My office was on the 2nd floor just across the street, but I wasn't working there anymore when Mr. Reagan was shot
