So reading about Trump & the wall:
He was determined pre-election in 2016, and initially promised a big beautiful concrete wall the entire 2000 mile length. And make Mexico pay for it.
And, rather needlessly considering he was going to make Mexico pay, bragged that his skills would enable building it in a more cost efficient way than previous administrations, and it would all be compliments of the federal government.This determination appeared to change over the four years as he promised less & less wall.
Once elected he said the wall was to be a bollard/steel plate construction (ok fine, a fit for purpose barrier).
But...Trump later 'clarified' that it would cover only half of the 2000m border. And by his State of the Union address in Feb 2020, his pledge had been reduced to "substantially more than 500 miles" by January 2021.In reality, less than 50 miles of new border 'wall' was installed. Maybe about 350 miles of pre-exisiting have been upgraded, with another 380 miles under construction.
Trump bypassed Congress for funding and $15 billion (of your money one way or another) was spent.
As it stands, the partial barrier has very little effect on illegal immigration.
Drug smuggling has not been affected because it moves through ports of entry.Fair summary?

But back to his point...In the areas where The Wall was built, the Border Patrol saw a decrease in illegal arrests.
The question would be, what happens when you can't go around it? Guess we'll never know...

Only very few, very small segments of Trump’s much touted US-Mexico border wall got built.
To build those small segments of the border wall, many new access roads were built so construction vehicles, machines, materials, and workers could get to the work site.
Since only rather few small segments were built, it’s easy for the illegal aliens to go around those segments.
What’s worse, once they got around those segments, they can take advantage of the access roads to more quickly and more easily go further inwards on US soil.
All that was done without getting Mexico to pay for it. It’s all American tax payers’ money.
There you have it, the verdict is in: Trump used American tax money to build access roads that made it easier for illegal aliens to travel further into the United States.

But...It does slow things down, perhaps to the point where enforcement is not like trying to bail a boat out with a strainer...

Another point...
There are more than one class of illegals trying to get into America and the coyotes charge accordingly. The children and "regular" illegals are the bottom of the totem pole and are charged accordingly. They are herded like cattle and usually released in the vicinity of the border or maybe in the first large city.
The next step up, may be Romanians or Russians (yes, lately we've caught multiples of each, along with some other Eastern Europeans), maybe Chinese or other peoples, who pay more money, are treated a bit better and usually are taken further in-country. They pay more for this service.
Then you have people who pay the coyotes the most money, for whatever reason. These guys tend to cross in areas with the highest degree if success. The are not part of larger groups and they may eventually be taken to any part of the country.
Many think that the coyotes will push the first group, allowing some to be caught and incurring Border Patrol use of resources, in order to smuggle the other, better paying groups in...

More than 70 House Republicans followed Tuesday in asking for a GAO opinion, which the watchdog typically provides whenever a member of Congress requests one.
Besides, Republicans say, Biden should know better after more than 30 years as a senator, as Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.), chair of the Senate Republican Policy Committee, put it.
“He was in the Congress a long time,” Blunt said in an interview. “He knows it’s the Congress' job to authorize how the money is spent and the president's job to spend it efficiently."

Well, everybody apparently misheard President Trump and his statements about Mexico building the wall.
Former President Donald Trump attempted to rewrite history in a speech in Iowa on Sunday, falsely claiming he had campaigned for the presidency in 2016 on a promise that Mexico would pay for “a piece” of his border wall.
I don't seem to remember him saying that. LOL. Maybe we need to re-name that one forum thread from "Biden Lies" to "President Lies"
Trump said: “So with all those losers out there that say – ‘Trump never got the –’ you remember, I used to say, ‘Mexico will pay for the piece of the wall.’”
He continued: “I’ll say, ‘What’s gonna happen if they [Mexico] fight,’ I say, ‘The wall gets higher.’ We all had a lot of fun. But I said, ‘Mexico will pay, for a piece of the wall.’
