Nobody really wants this amendment.
Women should and do receive special treatment in cases of abuse, child custody and other circumstances.
This amendment could end that.
Nobody wants that.
But, of course, the narrative is the narrative.

Decades ago
I will admit that I do not know much about this situation, but from what I have read, there was a known deadline to pass it.
The deadline was finished and it had not been passed in that time. Seems pretty "open/close" to me.
