DG & EBT
-
There is a reason Dollar General has vastly expanded their convenience food sections...I'm noticing more and more people buying $50-$100 worth of groceries and using an EBT card.
I also notice these people are not usually buying the things that I buy...I'll pop into DG for clothes detergent if I get low or maybe a bag of chips, always checking their digital coupons for the best deal. The DG saves me driving another 16 miles. But I never buy a buggy full of groceries there. Too expensive, minimal selection, no fresh produce or meat.
The EBT guys are buying sandwich meat, frozen pizzas, frozen hamburger patties, cereal, etc.
DG is making money off of poor people...

I am sure that the data is somewhere, but would be interesting to see a history of % of sales by EBT card over time.
