Can’t we just celebrate these things without trying to apportion credit to Trump or Biden?

Yep, really great news for the US!!

I don’t like it. End well. This feels like it’s introducing unnecessary points of risk and potential failure simply for the sake of shaving off a couple of weeks and getting political points,
The announcement yesterday made perfect sense. Have Merck take care of the finishing and packaging to allow J&J to focus on the main production would speed up the process considerably and easily.Having Merck now manufacture the vaccine they didn’t create, using machinery they aren’t familiar with which was built quickly by a manufacturer pressed into service by the Defense Department Act seems like you are adding unnecessary complications.
Best case scenario, it saves 3-4 weeks at a time when the numbers are dropping drastically already due to current vaccination rates and seasonality. Worst case scenario... Let’s not go there.
I may have to reconsider Pfizer.

70% by the end of April according to Silver
https://nodebb.the-new-coffee-room.club/topic/7374/2mm-a-dayFigure what? 15-20% that won’t take one under any circumstances? We would have been at the exact same place anyway, but with better accountability and less risk of mistakes. But President Joe wouldn’t have been able to use the DPA that he’s been talking about for months...
-
That was before the Merck deal. Seems like that was a pretty big deal especially for less dense areas because it’s a one shot standard temperature vaccine.
-
@jon-nyc right... Virtually every adult in the US that wanted the vaccine will have had access by the end of April WITHOUT the Merck deal. That’s 170,000,000. Now figure that 20% of the 210,000,000 will turn down the vaccine, that leaves us what? 18,000,000 short? That’s 9 days at current rates. Every adult would have had access by May 10th anyway. There was no need for the DPA.

I wish, but memories are too short. There will be new issues of the day, or new events driving the old issues (economy).

The economy is always the driving force. It's the major reason some of the blue states locked down more than the numbers warranted. Couldn't have their economies doing well during a presidential election, could we?
The standing joke down here is that COVID was cured as soon as Biden was elected...

Yeah people right here commented that it would stop being mentioned right after the election but they were wrong too.
