Merck to help make J&J vaccine

Under the arrangement, Merck will dedicate two facilities in the United States to Johnson & Johnson’s shots. One will provide “fill-finish” services, the last stage of the production process during which the vaccine substance is placed in vials and packaged for distribution. The other will make the vaccine, and has the potential to vastly increase supply, perhaps even doubling what Johnson & Johnson could make on its own, the officials said.

Merck got $38MM. Wouldn’t get them out of phase 2.

The reason they can do this is they’re the largest manufacturer of vaccines in the world and just canceled their own project last month.

That’s good news on an international basis but we’re currently only a few months away from vaccines being available for all adults that wants them in the US. Didn’t Silver point out that 70% will be vaccinated by the end of April? Or was it May? I don’t think we go over 85% total...

Where’s the Gates machine (not that it seems necessary)?
