“Sen. Tim Kaine is calling on the Biden administration to give Congress its legal justification for an airstrike launched Thursday against Iran-backed militia groups in Syria.

I’m sure WH lawyers have already written legal justification for why the strike was legal and why the President has the power to do it.

Members of the Senate who want to limit President’s War Powers will want to debate both.

That's interesting that Kaine has kicked up a fuss after 20 years of pretty much free reign. Given the irresponsible state of both parties in Congress today I'm not sure they deserve such power.

General question - I assume that the president of the US can do this "on his own", or does he have to have some sort of approval from Congress?

In what cases, does he or doesn't he need approval?
