Liberalism is a mental disease after all !?
-
The liberal mind is open to novel concepts. If poorly managed, this can result in too-rapid alterations in cognition, recognition, decision making and ways of being. Which leave him vulnerable to rashness, poor decision making and consequently anxiety and depression.
The conservative mind absorbs his last novel concept on or around his fifth birthday. Thereafter, all life encounters are approached with whatever conceptualizations he absorbed at that time, none thereafter, and which are inviolable. He does not suffer doubt. This leads to excessive self-satisfaction, obnoxious complacency, and often a lack of empathy and a coldness of heart. This individual is free of anxiety and is prone to labelling those different from himself as defective.

Me, and it is intended as satire, because oversimplication.

How are we defining mental disorder? Being born a female, but identifying as a man, but still being attracted to men so identifying as a gay man, then going to gay men clubs and being turned away because you don’t have man parts then holding a screaming bitch fit is all hunky dory and normal psychological behavior, but feeling a little melancholy is an indication of deep problems requiring heavy doses of antidepressants?
The transgender people I've known in real life, rather than as an online cliché, have all struggled with depression and significant anxiety.
I don’t have enough time right now to post about Matt or Renee and their Transgender stories, but I will try to get to them this weekend. Their experiences are heart breaking and both of their lives have been nearly ruined by the current crusade in the Transgender community. My disparaging comments do not come lightly.

Wow. And I thought I could be condescending towards the political opposition.

Obviously my approach was wrong. My greater point is that one mindset cannot validly draw sweeping conclusions about an entire other mindset and hope to reach any useful truths. I laid my post out to demonstrate how fucking foolish it is to even try.

Actually one thing we do have some scientific data on is that people who self-identify as liberal tend to have conceptions of the political opposition more divorced from reality than do conservatives regarding their opposition. The people who's understanding of the opposition is most divorced from reality, are in fact high status liberals. We've discussed that study here before.
