On COVID-19 social distancing grounds, I am glad that Melania does not blindly adhere to “tradition” in this case. Having been the VP’s spouse who presumably is already familiar with the inside of the White House and has good relationships with many former White House occupants, I doubt Dr. Jill Biden needs the house tour.

I agree a walk-through would be a bit silly. But the classy thing would have been to host some sort of social event, like a welcoming tea or something, for the new FLOTUS.
OTOH, that might appear somewhat in opposition to her husband's approach to the whole inauguration thing.

Agree. Probably not necessary but would have shown common courtesy to have some sort of "get together".
Respect the office, etc.
