The President cannot pardon himself or others for whatever the impeachment covers. That may be the best reason for impeachment. I didn’t realize till now. linkt

I think Trump has already weighed in three times that the insurrectionists broke the law so I don’t get the pardoning them?

      What am I missing?

          That is

'The most coherent constitutional understanding suggests that if the House votes to impeach Trump — even before the Senate begins its trial — he is then barred from issuing a pardon either for himself or those related to the impeachment charges. Congress — not the Supreme Court — can move to decide on whether the president can pardon himself or others directly connected to the high crimes for which he is impeached.'.

Does the Constitution state this? Is there any precedent to support it? If not it's just the writers' opinion.

I can't see him pardoning them. If he tries, he's finished in serious politics, and I'm sure he knows it.

Then again, he's done some pretty weird shit in the past and got away with it.

            I was only joking

President Trump can pardon whomever he wished up until the moment he is not the president. Presumably that's when Biden assumes office. He is president until that, or conviction by the Senate - an unlikely event.

Pardon himself for the impeachment stuff?

That's a political thing, not a criminal thing, I think.

However, if he were to be convicted of "high crimes" and misdemeanors, it would be interesting to see if the "crimes" have criminal equivalency (ie, prison time?).

I suppose Trump is capable of anything but given his televised statements of late this article makes no sense to me at all. But I could be missing something.

I think he should pardon himself of any and all crimes he may have committed.

                  Why not?

He is 74, he'll never run for office again.

                  Let him go.

That was my big takeaway from the last video he posted. Not the ‘hostage video’ from last Friday. But the one after that.

It seemed to rule out a pardon. Not that he isn’t capable of drastic changes in mind, but he’s running out of time.

Whether he pardons or not, i believe he realizes he is done in politics. In my opinion, he will in the future, put out hints about running, but just to keep his name in the news. I think he will realize quite quickly that he does not have enough support, and I think he would be too embarrassed to make an actual run and finish at the end. So, he will keep saying stuff but never actually make the final effort to run.

So, it would not surprise me to see him pardon whoever he wants.

Agreed. See @jon 's meme from Narcos.
