Should Congress go back?

Do you want elected representatives who spend all their time in DC or elected representatives who also spend lots of time living with the people in the communities they represent?
It's 2020, we have great telecommunications and remote collaboration technologies now. Let the elected representatives do their work remotely.

I agree.
Side benefit: less
interferenceinfluence from lobbyists and their ilk, perhaps. -

I want them live and in person. I've long advocated housing them in an apartment building, along with some staff, dining, lounge and exercise facilities on the premises.

If the Democrat party hadn't become a fascist terrorist organization I would agree with you. But they have, so honest representation is already dead. I suppose if the communist party became established well enough to have some seats in Congress you'd defend them too?
The government has been taken over by a bunch of evil morons. They need to go.

No, it is not "obvious" that I don't know that. You just want your hero to rule over all of us with an iron fist. Fuck that. Just because people do not agree with you, does not mean they should not take part in our process of government.
Putting the president up on some pedestal to never be criticized, is the most un-American thing I can think of. He is not a king. Last time we had a king, we went to war and won the right to make fun of, and criticize our "leaders", at will, and without restriction.
You sure did your part for 8 years, took an 8 year break, then did it all over again for 8 years.
I have been criticizing and making fun of, our "leaders" my entire life. Regardless of party affiliation. I am not about to stop now. Especially when the current occupant makes it so easy with his own words, and actions.
In my opinion, he is the absolute worst president this country has ever had.
And before you say that I am biased, don't even go there. I don't watch any of the news. I basically just watch him, make a complete and utter ass of himself, almost on a daily basis.

And in my opinion, you hate and you hate hard. You might hate Trump more than usual, but you hate the government in general, with an everyday loathing.
I'm no huge fan of government, but it does fulfill necessary functions to keep society running at a decent level. It's not always bad.
Speaking of not always bad, Trump is not always bad. I think most of his nominated judges are exactly what is needed. I agree with many of his economic policies. I applaud his stance on border security. I think his policy on the eradication of outdated and unnecessary rules is outstanding. Before this current pandemic came along, we had pretty much full employment...Lowest level of black unemployment in history, lowest level of Hispanic unemployment in history. And for the first time in many years, America was energy independent.
So if you're going to hate and if you are going to criticize, at least be fair. Anything else is just babbling bullshit.

Yes, it is obvious. A dictator rules alone. Period. For as long as he holds power, usually through control of the military. That is NOT what I suggested. Martial law in the US has limits. The main limit is that it's temporary.
Now if you want to know what a dictatorship is, if you want to know what authoritarian is, first you need to open your eyes to the reality of what the Left and the Democrat party has become. You will find out that while you were pissing and moaning about Trump being the worst president this country has ever had, you'll find out that the only thing standing between us and totalitarian rule is Trump. I don't have a problem with legitimate criticism - but you have yet to offer any. By your own admission you don't stay up on current events, you just base your hate on how you perceive the man by watching him. And yes, you are biased.
Your hatred of the man is obvious. You couldn't be objective if you wanted to. And since you don't keep up with current events, you don't know enough about what's actually going on to be objective. I do not put the man "on a pedestal". I just know the evil that is represented by the Left today, see you and others blindly bashing the man from day one when you had no fucking clue what kind of President he would be, watched as every single one of his detractors predictions about how awful a president he is turn out to be WRONG, and I see nothing but blind hate.
You don't like him. Fine. But if you're going to criticize him, do it with substance instead of the shit that's been shoveled the last 3 years.

Larry, what exactly is this evil? Because someone does not believe the same thing you do, or hold your same beliefs, it does not mean that they are evil.
Maybe they are legitimate concerns, but it would be interesting to have you provide specifics.
And please don't respond with, "if you dont know, then I am not going to waste my time telling you!" 55555555
(And the same thing goes for those who are against Trump. Larry has a good point that sometimes biases make it difficult to see past that)

I believe communism is evil. I believe much of socialism, is communism light. I believe the Democrat Party, especially the coastal dems, have a very strong wish for socialism and central control.

Not to be too nitpick, but evil in what way? What is your definition of evil?

It's not a matter of someone not believing the same things that I do. There was a time when both parties believed in pretty much the same things, they just differed in what the best way was to achieve it. John F. Kennedy for examp,e, was a Democrat. If he were alive today he would have to be a Republican because not only would he find that he was far to the right and had nothing at all in common with today's democrats, he would find that today's Democrat party wouldn't have him.
But surely you are aware that right and wrong are not subjective. Right and wrong are not matters of differences in beliefs. Believing murder is ok for example, does not make murder right. Unless you can recognize this simple fact, you will never be able to understand why today's left is evil. Next, you will need to see things from the standpoint of an overall trend, not hold up individual people and think "that person is a left winger and he's not evil". With that in mind, here are just a few things that show there is an evil running through the Left:
- I'm sure you agree that when a person's heart stops beating, they are dead. If a person is dead when their heart stops beating, why do some people believe a person is NOT alive when the heart STARTS beating? The reason is simple - some people are selfish. Oh, they hide behind fuzzy little phrases like "I believe in a woman's right to choose", but the truth is they have several reasons for wanting to legally kill babies. Some want it legal so they don't have to take any responsibility for their own actions. Some defend it because they think it makes them look "enlightened". Either way, their logic is rooted in a broader "evil". You can say "it's a matter of what you believe, and you just don't like it that some believe different than you" but you'd be wrong. Murdering a baby is not a matter of belief. It's a matter of right and wrong. We live in a world where you will go to prison for breaking an eagle's egg, but you'll get government funding to murder your baby. Explain how justifying the murder of babies is not evil.
Next.... when the right protests, we get the Tea Party. They didn't try to physically hurt anyone, cleaned up the grounds when they were done, and argued their case through discussion of the issues. When the Left protests we get Antifa hiding behind masks, beating up people, destroying property, leaving chaos, destruction, and filth in their wake. One wants a better America. The other one wants to destroy America. What motivates these so different sides? One side is evil, one side is not.
There are many more examples, but that SHOULD be enough to get you to understand. I know you want to believe both sides are equal they just "have different beliefs" - but that is a naive notion that hasn't been true for nearly 40 years.
-
@Larry I don' want to make it seem like I do not see your point, because I do. I just happen to disagree with just about everything that Trump says, stands for, or does. Period. Just about. I do agree with his 2nd amendment stance.
I freely admit that I have right leaning tendencies and left leaning tendencies. In my perfect world people would not denigrate, or be filled with hate, for others, or do violence against others for not living or believing as they do. Sadly, that world has never existed and I am 99.99999% sure it never will exist.
In my much younger days, yes, back even before we all met each other, my mindset was a lot different than it is today mainly because I found out, rather brutally that the world that I wanted to exist, did in fact, not exist. That our government with all of it's good and bad components, was here, was our reality, and was not going to ever go away.
After being forced to surrender almost $100,000 or the entirety of my retirement savings to that point, by the IRS, I was done with my attitude that I wanted nothing to do with it or that I wanted nothing from them. Up to that point, I was absolutely convinced that I would reject Social Security or Medicare when my time came to collect. That is how far I had fallen down a hole of despair in regard to the government. Everything that I felt so strongly about began to wane.
As my three daughters got older, my attitude about women's issues, and other issues that are typically championed by the left, basically took a 180. At some point I had a real "FUCK THAT!" moment. I wanted them to be on control of their own destiny, and their bodies. I did not want men to tell them how to live their lives. I now wanted something for what they make me pay for the privilege of being a citizen of this country. I want more than perpetual war, and wasting so much of our national treasure on it. I want my taxes to go to helping my fellow humans as well as myself, and I started to get really pissed when the healthcare industry decided to try to start bankrupting me year after a year. It just got worse, year after year as my health insurance premiums kept climbing and the deductibles followed suite. This was a long time before, the ACA was even a gleam in anyone's eye.
Yes, I used to be a far more right leaning person, anti-abortion, anti-tax, and my anti-everything leanings then lead me down the path of a very libertarian mind set, where my stance on many topics started to evolve. That didn't sit well with you and some others on our forums either at the time, because it was then that I realized that both political parties wanted basically the same thing. It was power for power's sake and to be able to control the people as they saw fit. I dug in deeper to libertarian thinking. But I also started climbing out of that pit at the same time, and it was on the left side of the pit that I crawled. I went through many changes in my spiritual thinking, I tried to reconnect with a faith that I had long ago rejected, for various reasons. I tried for many years to rekindle a belief in something outside this reality, but I could never quite reconcile it with what I knew to be real. When I saw the reasons why I left it in the first place resurface, I left it once again. This time for good. I simply cannot betray my own thoughts on it and still be honest with myself.
So that was my beginning of tilting to the left because it seemed that only the left wanted to address these issues that I felt were important for everyone, and not just the country club sect. The right just dismisses them out of hand, calls them evil, and shouts down anyone who doesn't agree with them. I quickly grew tired of all the shouting. I know the shouting on the left is just as bad in some instances, it is even worse. I do not have any illusions that the left is the answer for everything just as I have no illusion that the right is either. I still have strong 2nd amendment defending leanings but, I also feel as strong for every other amendment (except the 16th lol) Even my feeling on the 16th have wavered to a point that I know it will never go away so I WANT SOMETING FOR IT! I get nothing for it right now except the worlds biggest military budget and a wasteful government full of corruption. And it is my opinion that the current occupant of the oval office is only making it worse. I know you all think that it is necessary for us to waste so much our tax dollars on the military, but I know we could do just as well, with far less.
I do keep up with current events I just don't get my information from the news networks. Any of them. Mainly because I feel they have all become corrupted by their owner's political leanings. I started to become a much calmer person, especially when I stopped digesting the 24 news cycle, and stopped watching all of the biased news channels and started to seek the truth in other ways.
I still love each and everyone of you here and on the other forums. We are like a huge and somewhat dysfunctional family, but I do consider you all as family. We celebrate when things go well for each other, and we hurt, when someone is hurting.
We all have different ideas of what our "perfect world" would be. Problem is, the world will never be perfect for any of us.
At the end of the day, there isn't anyone on any of our forums that I would now want to sit down with, and have drink or meal, or just sit and talk in person.
So, we argue and words fly and we get angry. That is one of the very definitions of family.
