Renauda's prediction is that pop culture will turn authoritarian right within a foreseeable future. I don't see that as a reasonable possibility, much less a probability, personally. I think our pop culture has too much inertia towards the left.

My prediction is that an American caesar or Napoleon will arise out of this mayhem and once and for all quell the mob. You really ought to go to Wikipedia and look up what 19 Brumaire was, maybe then you'll understand.
Yes, I know you disdain the lessons of history but that's your problem.

I don't understand how one could win control over America, without winning over pop culture. If that is not your contention then I have misunderstood your prediction.

Winning over pop culture was never my contention. Tearing down the mob rule of pop culture was.

So our duly elected government will manage to maintain an authoritarian right platform simply because a majority of voters will prefer it to the mob rule of the left?
If that's the contention, I don't see it. The majority, including our most important cultural idea propagators (MSM, big tech, movies, celebrities, influencers, etc), have no real issue with mob rule of the left.

That said, if the majority really did become repulsed enough by leftist mob rule, I don't see why a decent person wouldn't welcome the change you predict as at least "a better alternative". Perfect shouldn't be the enemy of the good.

I've never followed his social media accounts. I always knew whatever he said would infiltrate to any media I ever consume, including TNCR.

Exactly. Even the marginal stuff posted here at least has made it though much filtering. I see more than I need to at TNCR, just stuff meant to incite people.
We are a culture that incites. Remember that when the word is used this week.
And so many people want to put a brick on the incite pedal.

wrote on 9 Jan 2021, 20:46 last edited by Renauda 1 Sept 2021, 20:47I don't think so, or at least not at all like the scale of the last one with two armies marching on one another. Rather people will be so numbed with the social mayhem and political gridlock created by the extremes of the right and left, that the majority and the various states will welcome a MacArthur like figure, but not necessarily a military person, who will put together a governing junta to restore order under the banner of patriotism and the Constitution.

Why not go authoritarian left rather than authoritarian right? Certainly if we're to squelch the encouraged and enabled mobs, we will need law enforcement to do its job, but why can't the left happily embrace that as much as the right?

In the civil war, peoples’ economic way of life was threatened.
I think it’ll take a lot for people without real threats of their livelihoods to willingly go to Armageddon.

It won't take a civil war, I think Renauda is envisioning a military coup based on a fair election of an authoritarian candidate, who will then control the military. Personally I don't see what that necessarily has to do with left/right. I do understand that the right has come out nearly unanimously against the idiotic capitol raid, while the left didn't make a peep about CHAZ, Portland, etc. But now they want their righteousness to be taken seriously. Pretty sure most of us connected to the reality of human experience are aware it's the overwhelming hatred of Trump, and the overwhelming desire to bask in victory, which are doing the talking.

What follows is The Standard Reply:
What are you still waiting for? Start building your own alternatives to Twitter, Google, Facebook, etc. already.
The point about Android shows much ignorance on the part of the author. Unlike Apple/iOS, Android is open source and anyone can put up an Android “app store” that distributes apps to Android devices. There is literally no way for Google to monopolize Android or ban any third party apps for Android. The Betsy Google can do is to refuse distributing a third party app via the Google Play Store, which is only one of many “app stores” for Android. And as long as you have Android, you have an alternative to Apple/iOS.

Have you ever met anyone who has used something different from the Google Play Store on his or her Android device?
I have, but I'm a nerd.

Google’s flavor of Android is probably used on the vast, vast majority of Android phones (I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s in the 90%’s in the US).
The other popular flavor is Amazon’s. As Klaus mentioned, everything else is nerd fodder.
Also - you can access any mainstream social media platform from the browser. It’s very easy for me to use Parler on my iPhone (if I were so inclined.)
