The geekiest "Expanse" thread to date

Through 5 episodes of Season 1. I know I am late to the party but I get to binge for a long time and that is a very good thing.
Thoroughly enjoying.
@loki isn't is funny how, after episode 3, it all starts to make sense.
I must've tried twice, never "getting it."
Where is this going? What's the point? And then, once the battle with the MRCN Donnager takes place, you see, "Oh, my. There's something BIG going on."
The books are great as well.

The books are great as well.
I’ve come to be patient with new shows as the first several episodes are devoted to character and plot development.
I haven’t mentioned how many shows I ditched after 3 or 4 because I just don’t like where they are going. Did not like Dark, The Watchmen for example.
Wandavision I loved the first two episodes but the third that dropped yesterday gave me huge pause.

@doctor-phibes back in the late 1990s, on Usenet, there were many discussions on how Babylon 5 paid attention to the physics of zero-gravity.
The Expanse continues that thinking - even extending it to the constructions of ships: they should be like skyscrapers, not boats.
Adam Savage (Mythbusters) is a huge fan, and he actually has a cameo at the end of season 3, iirc.

Is is just me, or is this season kind of dragging? Even Season 4 seemed to be a bit faster-paced.

Yeah, it's still the case after the most recent episode, in my opinion.
It's somewhat annoying to see Drummer without balls all the time.

The pace is a lot slower, and they seem much more focused on the individual personalities rather than on the big story.
I'd quite like them to all get back on the freaking Rocinante, and do what they do best.

Nemesis Games is like that as well. However, the novel struck me as faster paced.
Lots of chatter as to who's going to become the pilot of The Rocinante.

Heh, that was one of the main threads in the book/books... How lost they were without the rest if the crew. How much they complimented each other. Holden in particular really struggles without the others.

I commented on one of the FB groups about how J. Michael Straczinsky (Babylon 5) always had "trap doors" in his stories so that, if an actor couldn't continue in the role, there was a way to get a replacement going. He did that with Michael O'Hare/Bruce Boxleitner and Claudia Christian/What's Her Name.
We know that Cas Anvar isn't coming back for the final season. Are you planning to recast, or will there be a narrative reason why he's not there?
So, here's the thing I loved about Babylon 5, right? Babylon 5 was a great show, and it was really the basis, I think, for a lot of long-form television. And one of the things that J. Michael Straczynski was brilliant about and that I really appreciate, and you can see it play out in his work, is every character, the whole way through, is standing on a trap door. It's just smart. It's just a smart way to do it.
Okay. That makes sense. And that's one thing I think your show does really well is that there's always more jeopardy. Things are always getting worse.
Well, and bigger.
And bigger.
Yeah. That's the game right there.

I guess the obvious question is: How did they manage to let "Alex Kamal" die so conveniently, even though news of his scandal emerged only (AFAIK) the shooting had ended?

I was wondering the same thing.
His contract probably said that he must be available for re-shoots. His camera time in that whole scene was about 5 seconds.
