    Let me start with Sally Cohn:

    "Now look here, you Baltic gas passer... " - Mik, 6/14/08

    The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.

        I condemned them then, and I condemn them now.

        What's your explanation, Ms. Kohn?

                  You know Horace, there exist people who can condemn both Antifa scum and Magat vermin.

                    Maybe he is. I remember reading some of his words a couple years ago which made me respect him a lot less. Again, what did he say about the Portland and Chaz riots?

                      To the more abstract point, we could all choose to dismiss humanity at its fringes, but there will still exist cultural warfare which is funneled into a two-sided afair. Hating on both fringes is an easy choice and one we could all make, but the fringes are the ones doing the talking. As a person who chooses (for the moment) to identify as right, I have to do what, admonish Nazis and White Supremacists and now Capitol Maruaders? By all means, I disavow all of that. Now I ask the left to disavow those who destroy society in the name of fighting back against the imbecile who kneeled on the neck of George Floyd.

                      Education is extremely important.

                        @horace

                        You often (correctly) point out that it’s not enough to disavow the violent bits of the Antifa riots, the left needs to recognize the role they played in creating it.

                        I think the same applies to the enablers of this man. French is capturing that here.

                            It's a good question, even if it was meant as a deflection.

                            It might be easier for you to think about what you'd expect the average left leaning guy to do to put the brakes on illiberal left. Of course if you start thinking about that seriously the first barrier you hit is the futility of one guy without a platform trying to do anything at all.

                            But if you imagine 100k such people out there, what should they do? Probably remain on their own side and just call bullshit on their own side's bullshit whenever they can, without trying to trivialize it or sweep it under the rug as not really that important. I aspire to that and no doubt you've seen me attempt it on the tiny platform next door. (that's not a claim that I'm the perfect exemplar of what to do)

                            89 is a great example of that on the right. And no, he didn't vote Hilary in 2016, I'm sure of it.
