      @kluurs , that's a classic.

                    @jon-nyc in the late 1960s, we had a remote-control TV. It was a Zenith, and I think the remote was called "Air Command."

                    It had two buttons. One was a volume up/down and the other was a channel up/down. When you pressed the channel up button, the dial on the front of the TV would turn and tune to the next channel. If you wanted to go up two channels, you pushed the button twice.

                    It was remarkable. It made a real "click" when you pushed the button, and we've called the remote a "clicker" ever since.

                    This is similar - it was a miracle of technology. Didn't need batteries, either.

                      Nice. In the late 70s we had a VCR with a wired remote. It had about 15’ of cable.

                              Seriously? Didn’t have a remote until ~ 1988, when we got cable. Being poor sucked in some ways.

                                    We had a Zenith with the click remote. It went haywire in a cool way. You could clap your hands and the channel would change. My friends thought it was amazing. Unfortunately, it got to the point where a loud TV program would make it go into a channel-changing frenzy along with blasting the volume.
                                    I think the clicker may have worked by making a certain specific pitch or "ding" sound. We could shake the hanging lamp chain and cause the TV to go mega nuts.
