Not so much anymore, but people would choose a weird english name because they did'nt know any better. A friend of a friend was named "Vagina" (I think they wanted Virginia?), plus other weird ones. Also, in South Korea, companies would let employees choose their email name. So, you would have something like KPopLover@samsung.com or ILuvKimchi@hyundai.com something like that. Not very professional. LOL

Not uncommon for nicknames to sound weird in English. One of my best friends, we call her "Little Piggy" because she was a bit bigger than us when we were students. But, actually, she is not really fat at all.
