@George-K I am guessing it means that there is a sudden drop-off in the sand.

It’s all an optical illusion forcing you to ask yourself is he holding his rod with his left or right hand. The guy on the right is treading water and smiling to himself because from his perspective he can tell which hand, while knowing all the shorebound people cannot.
Simple when you think about it
