I loved living in that place. The guy was basically gone for about 8 months of the year.
Here was the street, it cost me about $300 a month to have the run of the house.

It was great for me - I worked about 5 minutes away from there in an old converted farm. It was out in the countryside, with a little village pub.
Some of the newer people were a bit hoity-toity (it was in Cheshire, after all), but the older locals were all great.
When he was selling the house, a couple came around with a young child. The mother looked at the canal and said 'I'm not sure about that with our Jimmy...'. The father said 'Well, he'd only do it the once!'.

Not sure if this is really "funny", but I thought it was interesting. Took the picture yesterday. It is a stairway to/from a MRT subway station. There is an escalator both up and down so not too many people take the stairs.

@george-k you see those signs everywhere on the Greek Islands, at least you did when I went there. You had to put the paper in this little plastic bin, which was lovely.

@George-K Many places in Taiwan are still this way. When we got indoor plumbing in our house, we could not throw toilet paper in the toilet. It would clog up the sewer line. Pretty common in Asia to have the separate bin next to the toilet.
