Sho-Bud
-
Nephew is currently playing a Sho-Bud pedal steel guitar. As some of you may or may not know, ever since Carter closed the doors a decade ago, nobody here mass produces pedal steels anymore. Smaller shops, but those are really expensive.
Now, nephew is a good guitar picker, along with being decent on the banjo, bass, and mandolin, but most live music gigs are far and few between nowadays. What is funny, is the demand for a pedal steel player. Just not that many down here, so he gets more side work than most other musicians.
Pedal steel is still used for country and other music, so why the dearth of manufacturers and players?
